| Festivities in Valença
In Valença, as in all Bahia, there are lots of parties all year round, celebrating dates or paying homage to important historical character of Brazilian folklore. All festivities are special in their own way and it is well worth planning your holidays during festivity period, even if it only for the weekend. The emotion and joy of the participants, the colours of clothes and masks, and music in the streets will surely leave a memorable mark. Some of the most exciting festivities are Bumba meu Boi, Zambiapunga (in the town of Maricoabo from the 31st of October to the 1st of November, late at night until dawn), Terno de Reis (6th of January), and the religious processions. The São João Festivity (Festa de São Jõao) is one of the most popular and lots of fun. Bands play on floats that go along all the streets of the town, all night, as everyone dances behind them, much like carnaval in Salvador, and temporary bars lining the streets. Below, a calander of festivities in Valença (some are in Guaibim or nearby localities). Parties of private initiative are usually held in closed sections of some neighbourhoods or in clubs and you must pay to participate. Some parties or festivities do not have fixed dates (usually it is the day of the month that matters, not the date), and can be held on any day of the month or following month. You may contact us for the exact dates of these parties before traveling. |
